First SDSRA News Update!

September 06 2025
  1. A WONDERFUL PLACE TO LIVE
We had a niece who was born and bred in New Zealand and is now 19 staying with us a week or so ago. She has spent very few days in the UK since her birth but is having a gap year in the UK/Europe. She stayed three or four days and reported back to her mum and dad that she’d stayed in our wonderful oasis on the Isle of Dogs. I agree with her. It’s a wonderful place to live.

  2. REGENERATION
Was it back in April or May that we renewed the constitution for the SDS Residents’ Association? A great deal of energy is going to into connecting with issues that residents are highlighting. It’s the intention of the committee to report back regularly, and to glean information from you as often as possible. Updating this website is one of the tools at our disposal. Please email any comments, useful information, or requests to: [email protected].

  3. BIRD’S EYE VIEW
Labyrinth on the Thames © Amélie Chowna I have been impressed that the August music gig in the old Royal Naval College grounds stopped at 11 PM every night. Those on the other side of the river that live as close to the stage as we do get free and discounted tickets! Does anyone know how much money the Greenwich estate managers gain from a festival like this?

  4. UNAUTHORISED ACCESS
Congratulations to the person who challenged a couple of people entering one of our blocks without a key fob or being admitted through the intercom. People wondered if this unregulated access was related to missing Amazon parcels on doorsteps. It is fairly easy to hang around doors until someone comes out and then nip in. Perhaps a campaign by all residents to prevent this happening? We could say to anyone who looks as though they’re entering without being admitted by a resident that they should enquire at the concierge office.

  5. WAS ANYONE PRESENT for either of these events?
Lemn Sissay Recently Lemn Sissay bringing his poetry to the festival, or the beached whale some time ago?

  6. BLOCK CONTACTS
In trying to improve the communication between residents on necessary and important matters the residents Association committee has appointed a member to liaise particularly with a specific block. They are to be called block champions!! And their photo will appear soon near the entrance door.

  7. FIRSTPORT ERROR
Liam Spender, chair of SDSRA, has alerted us:
“You may have seen recently that FirstPort is consulting on the Resident Engagement strategy for all buildings except Meridian. We do not believe that Hamilton or Jupiter House are higher-risk buildings. As such they should not have to bear the expense of complying with the Building Safety Act 2022. We have written to the landlord asking that these registrations are explained, or else cancelled.”

  8. COURT HEARING
The SDSRA will ask that the possibility of costs being levied against us will be limited to a fixed and stated sum in a court hearing to be heard on 10th September at the Royal Court of Justice, and will determine whether we can proceed with the substantive Service Charge appeal. Supporters welcome.
